Tourist Information

Dumfries and the surrounding area offers many interesting pursuits all year round. Some of the highlights worth investigating and experiencing are:

The Family History Research Centre
Who are you? Where do you come from?

The Ice Bowl
Part of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s joined-up integrated sport and leisure provision – promoting health and fitness, and fun on the ice.

Dumfries Cinema
Watch films in this classic retro single-screen venue.

Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival
The annual arts festival has been running for over 30 years and brings a higher class of entertainment to the region for 10 days at the end of May every year

Border Gathering
Scottish clans and clan-folk coming together for clan activities.

Guid Nychburris Festival
(with the Crowning of the Queen of the South)
Dumfries town luminaries organise an annual festival that resurrects sentimental traditions in the area, including ride-outs to mark the town boundaries for local horse-riders, and picking a Cornet and Queen of the South from the town’s most eligible young people.

Notorious for prolonged opening hours in the town’s hostelries, it’s hard even for the organisers and protagonists not to get bolshy on booze! A local festival organised by local people but visitors to the town are welcome to try and join in the fun.

Guid Nychburris takes place in June every year.
